If you are a parent, guardian or teacher and think that a child may have dyscalculia or if you think they are having difficulties working with numbers, it is important to arrange a test for dyscalculia as soon as possible.
Ensuring early and appropriate intervention is a key to supporting your child and managing the right approach to their development moving forward in their education.
Dyscalculia Assessments and Tests
At Clinical Partners our team of Educational Psychologists are able to offer a range of educational assessments for children aged 4 to 18.
We are able to offer these assessments at our central London offices or at your home or school depending on your location in the UK.
A full Dyscalculia assessment can be used for various areas including schools, LEA's, access arrangements, exam concessions, DSA application or for your peace of mind.
The Dyscalculia Assessments:
The diagnostic assessment for dyscalculia is made up of a number of different tests. Although each test lasts no longer than about 10 minutes the whole test can take between 2-4 hours depending on the child.
The assessment will include:
- Background interview covering academic, social and emotional background and the child's developmental history
- Psychological assessments
- Cognitive assessment which provide an understanding of the child's verbal ability, attention and concentration, memory and processing speed and perceptual skills.
- A standardised numeracy assessment (WIAT-II) which includes:
Numerical Operations (completing sums)
Mathematical Reasoning (applying mathematics in real world situations)
Diagnosing Dyscalculia and written report
We will provide you with a full written report that will explain the results from the dyscalculia assessment. The report will outline the results and include recommendations for further action and advice on support for your child in school.
The Psychologist will also be available for a follow up consultation to discuss the report and advise you possible next steps.
