Therapy to help cope with a Midlife Crisis
What is a Midlife Crisis?
This is a controversial area. Questions like: what is it; what are the symptoms; is it a male menopause; when does it start; is it biological or psychological create much debate.
According to Erikson, a famous psychoanalytic thinker writing back in the 1960's, the key predicament of midlife, leading sometimes to a sense of crisis, involves resolving the life task of generativity vs. stagnation. This means how to continue with meaningful goals over an extended period, and a sense of making a contribution, when you are feeling stale, bored or burnt out.
The most important issue to recognise, however, is that men can suffer in their late 30's 40's and 50's with a range of physical and emotional which are all treatable.
Common Symptoms of a Mid Life Crisis
However the Mid Life Crisis manifests itself: an affair; a desire for a younger lifestyle; fatigue; depression, disturbed sleep or insomnia, erectile dysfunction, low self-esteem, moodiness or irritability it is important to seek professional help as there may well be underlying physical causes.
