Dr Melissa Adams

Dr Melissa Adams is an experienced Consultant Individual, Couple & Family Psychotherapist, currently working in the private sector in London. Dr Adams has a BA (Hons) in Psychology, MSc Social Sciences, MSc Individual, Couple & Family Psychotherapy and a Doctorate in Systemic Psychotherapy. She is also a Member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

Dr Adams has over 25 years’ experience as a Senior Practitioner and Manager within Social Care and NHS Adults and Child & Mental Health Services.

Dr Adams is happy to see both Adults and CAMHS patients in the London area, and specialises in a wide selection of issues including Relationship difficulties; Parenting, Separation and Divorce; Adoption and Fostering; Eating Disorders; Bereavement; Emotional Concerns (bereavement, low mood and self-esteem, and anxiety); School Problems. She creates a personalised approach to therapy for each of her patients, including Systemic, Individual & Family Therapy.

Dr Adams is experienced in Medico Legal work, having given evidence in court, and handling disputes and contact for children in marital disputes and separation. She covers recommendations, court reports, and provides parenting assessments and culturally sensitive assessments and act as an Expert Witness.

Dr Adams has previously developed and managed the largest family therapy service nationally across central & outer London, and involved in the development and management of other innovative, award winning services.

Dr Adams approach is empathetic and understanding. She is respectful of cultural and ethnic differences, and offers a safe place to enable reflection upon difficult thoughts & feelings. She is highly regarded by her colleagues as compassionate, and able to take on difficult challenges and make decisions based on the best interests of her patients.
