Specialist GP in Neurodiversity
Qualifications: MBBCh, BMedSci, PGDip, MRes
Dr Heidi Phillips is a specialist GP who supports children and adults with various neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism and ADHD. She is trained in conducting ADI-R assessments, the gold standard clinical method of diagnosing autism, and is an advanced ADHD practitioner.
Dr Phillips has nearly 30 years of experience as an NHS clinician, but for the past few years, she has specialised in neurodivergence and is an associate professor at Swansea University Medical School, where she trains medical students, junior doctors, and GPs.
Dr Phillips believes that neurodivergence is not a deficit but a different way of being and that navigating a neurotypical world starts with people understanding themselves and their loved ones.
“With Dr Heidi Phillips, I felt communicated with and treated with respect, and I don't believe she could have done much better.”
Patient testimonial
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Phillips has made significant contributions to the field of general practice. Perhaps most notably, her research in relation to the recruitment of GPs in Wales led to the development of primary care academies. These academies enable students and trainees to learn about medicine in a primary care setting rather than in secondary care.
