Dr Maria Zioga is a highly trained Clinical Psychologist specialising in Child, Adolescent and Parenting work. She is a Chartered Member and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and she is registered with the regulatory body - the Health Care Professions Council. She offers individualised expertise on the specific needs of the child and the family. She has a long and multifaceted experience working in the NHS, Higher Education, Schools, Private Sector, and she was working until recently for Child Bereavement UK as the London Regional Director.
She has a strong scientific background and training as she holds a DPhil in Child Psychiatry (Oxford University), a Master’s in Developmental Psychology, another Master’s in Psychology of Education and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling, all from leading UK departments.
In all her clinical assessment and psychotherapeutic interventions with children and parents, she follows evidence-based practice as her basic guiding principle. She covers a range of issues including: Developmental (typical and atypical), Emotional (anxiety, depression), Behavioural, School related difficulties (social interactions, communication, self-esteem, puberty) parental and of course Psychopathological phenomena (diagnosis and treatment). Her therapeutic methods are tailored to each individual child and family and include the adoption of various approaches, combinations of them and techniques e.g. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychoanalytic Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Integrative Therapy and extensive Parental Interventions.
Dr Zioga is passionate about producing realistic care plans which promote healthier psychological development for every child, with close attention to all crucial parameters including the affected child, adolescent or parent, the family as a system and the school. She is happy to work with parents and help them overcome their concerns, dilemmas and difficulties and can counsel parents on how to effectively cope as a couple and family during challenging times. She values and is sensitively committed to ensuring confidential and discreet environments for all the families she sees.
