Dr Ranjita Howard
Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist
I am a Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist working with children and adolescents, offering virtual appointments.
I have over 15 years of clinical experience and have worked in the NHS since 2011.
I provide a sensitive, warm and compassionate approach. I build strong therapeutic relationships, using a natural conversational style to help children and adolescents feel at ease. My medical and therapeutic training allows me to offer hope and support that is tailored to each person’s needs.
I have experience working with young people with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and neurodevelopmental disorders with a specialist interest in the latter. I am also a trained Level 2 CBT therapist and professional coach. This allows me to bring therapeutic input alongside medical treatment where appropriate.
My research interests include resilience, therapeutic relationships and coping strategies. I have led resilience workshops and lectures for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) trainees and consultants. My published work includes an award-winning systematic review on resilience in psychiatrists, which was the most downloaded BJPsych Bulletin article in 2019, and a rapid review of coping strategies used by young people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I have presented my work at international, national and local conferences. I also peer-review work for Cambridge University Press and have written books for medical students.
I completed my core psychiatry and specialist child and adolescent psychiatry training in the North East of England, and hold a Certificate of Completion of Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
