Lucy Sanctuary is a highly specialist Speech & Language Therapist and Cognitive Behaviour Practitioner (CBT). She specialises in working with families, children and young people who are on the Autism Spectrum.
Lucy has worked within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) for the NHS for over 12 years and continues to carry out ASD assessments for them on a contract basis, helping to catch up on autism assessment waiting lists.
Lucy has considerable experience of carrying out autism assessments for children and young people from the age of 2 and a half up to 20. She is particularly interested in assessing young people with complex presentations, e.g. learning difficulties, high levels of anxiety, selective mutism and behaviour difficulties. She has undertaken the ADOS-2 Advanced Training in Research Reliability at the University of California (San Francisco).
Her CBT practice is family focused, designed to help parents develop their knowledge, understanding and skills to support their child. She is currently undertaking an MSc at University College London on parents’ experience of using CBT strategies with children on the autism spectrum.
Lucy is always searching for the best outcomes for the young people and families she works with. She conducts parent consultations and runs support groups, and training, for families who have a child/children with social communication difficulties and autism spectrum disorder. She also has considerable experience in providing bespoke training in Early Years and Schools settings. She has also delivered training for the National Autistic Society, Kent Autistic Trust, Speech & Language Therapy Special Interest Groups and local charities.
