Find out what happens after your NHS Right to Choose autism assessment, including your feedback session and report.
Your feedback appointment
Your feedback appointment will take place on Zoom and usually lasts up to 30 minutes.
In this appointment, your clinician will explain the outcome of your assessment, talk through what the team has understood about your experiences, and discuss any recommendations or next steps. Whether or not a diagnosis is given, the focus is on helping you understand the outcome and what may be helpful for you moving forward.
This is also a space for you to ask questions. Some people prefer to ask questions during the session, while others find it helpful to take time to reflect first. There is no right or wrong approach, but you may wish to think in advance about anything you would like to ask.
You might find it helpful to consider questions such as:
Can you explain how you reached this outcome?
Did the assessment highlight any particular strengths or differences?
Are there any adjustments or support options I could consider at work, in education, or in daily life?
Are there any resources you would recommend while I am waiting for my report?
Your report
After your assessment, you’ll receive a detailed report that explains the outcome of your assessment and how your clinical team reached their conclusion, including whether your experiences are consistent with autism. All reports are based on the information gathered during your assessment and follow recognised clinical guidelines.
Many people use their report to access support, such as local services, charities, peer groups, or support at work or in education. You can speak with your GP if you’re unsure how to follow the recommendations.
Please note, your report cannot be used for legal proceedings.
We’ll email you when your report is ready, and you can view and download it from your portal.
