Anger Management

A recent survey by The Mental Health Foundation found over one in four people report being concerned about their anger levels, while one in ten reported difficulty controlling their temper and one in five people had ended a friendship or intimate relationship because of the rage in the other.

Although a natural emotion – anger can also be incredibly destructive affecting your physical health and your relationships both at home and at work. The positive is however that anger management problems can be resolved effectively.

The importance of Anger Management Counselling

Good therapy will not just address the issue of how angry you are, but also your ability to control your arousal levels – and how you express your anger. Some may appear completely calm to the outside world, but inside they are burning up with rage. Effective anger management is not just about appearing as sweetness and light, but also checking your inner state of emotional turmoil.

Seeking help for Anger Management

We all feel angry from time to time but when this anger becomes a destructive force becoming more regular and more intensive it is time to seek help. Living with anger is exceptionally hard for the sufferer but also for family, friends and colleagues. Regular or intensive bouts of anger also negatively affect the individual's physical and emotional health:

  • Digestive System: it can contribute to a number of stomach and bowel illnesses including: ulcerative colitis, IBS and gastritis
  • Heart and Circulatory System: it can increase the risk of heart disease and strokes
  • Immune System: it can weaken your immune system making individuals more susceptible to illness and slows the recovery rate
  • Mental Health: it can lead to depression, self-harm and addiction
  • Home and Work Life: uncontrolled outbursts will affect all relationships and social interactions creating issues both at home with family and friends and at work with colleagues
