Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist based in Bristol and Devon
Dr Matthew Gilbert is a highly experienced Consultant Psychiatrist who specialises in working with children and young people, adopting a holistic approach wherever possible.
Matthew has specific expertise in neurodevelopmental disorders, such as ADHD, Autism and Aspergers Syndrome, OCD and Tourette's, in addition to mental health difficulties in children and young people. He also specialises and has experience working in the following areas: Family Support, Conduct Disorder, Childhood ADHD & ADD, Childhood Autism Spectrum Disorders, Childhood depression and anxiety, Child & Adolescent Mental Health Issues, Low self esteem, Self Harm, Suicide, OCD, Opposition Defiant Disorder, Trauma, Parenting, Phobias and Fears
Dr Matthew Gilbert has a personal interest in music and the arts, and has practiced yoga and Chinese martial arts. This has fed an interest in a holistically based approach to treatment, which he feels is essential when working with young children and their families.
Dr Matthew Gilbert studied Medicine at Guys & St Thomas’ Medical School in London and graduated as a doctor in 1995. He went on train at the Maudsley Hospital in South East London and has nine years extensive experience as a qualified Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. He also holds an MSc in Mental Health Sciences.
Matthew plans to expand his experience further with training in neurodevelopmental disorders in children, and has a growing interest in the role diet plays in emotional and behavioural difficulties in young people.
He has completed Medico Legal and Expert Witness training.
