Dr Yasir Kasmi is a highly experienced Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist currently working in the independent sector in a medium secure service, having previously worked in the NHS. He has a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology, Medical Degree with distinction in Psychiatry, MMedSc in Clinical Psychiatry with merit, and a Masters in Mental Health Law. Dr Kasmi is also a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, General Medical Council, British Medical Association and the Medical Protection Society.
Dr Kasmi has over 12 years’ experience in forensic psychiatry and was recently appointed a Second Opinion Appointed Doctor (SOAD) by the Care Quality Commission. He is also a peer reviewer for the Quality Network.
With substantial experience in the management of mentally disordered offenders and other patients requiring secure conditions, Dr Kasmi also covers General Adult Psychiatry across a range of disorders, including Depression, Bipolar, Self-Harm and Medication Reviews.
Dr Kasmi is an incredibly competent Medico Legal Expert and Section 12(2) Approved Clinician, having made numerous court experiences, completed reports and attended specialist training. He is confident covering Behavioural Difficulties, Capacity to Instruct, Placement Options, Early-Onset Psychosis, Forensic Risk Assessments, Personality Disorder and Placement Risk Assessments.
Dr Kasmi has worked at the Department of Health for two years, reforming the Mental Health Act Code of Practice. He has published over a dozen articles in peer reviewed journals and presented seminars at international conferences.
