Donna McElhinney is a highly qualified and very experienced Speech and Language Therapist with a wide range of therapeutic skills. She is a member of the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapy (RCSLT) and is currently working as a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and Clinical Lead for Autism for a NHS Trust in the North West . She also assesses and provides intervention for sensory processing disorders and is an accredited advanced practitioner.
As the clinical lead for autism, Donna is dedicated to developing and improving Speech and Language Therapy for young people and their families and is a core member of the autism diagnostic pathway. Donna, having worked in several special schools, has a high level of knowledge and experience working with children and young people with learning difficulties, neuro developmental disorders, such as ADHD and autism, and social and emotional mental health needs. She is passionate about working with young people, particularly teenagers.
Not only understanding that Speech and Language therapy needs to be data driven, evidence based, flexible and creative, Donna feels strongly that it is just as important that it is relevant and enjoyable for the young person and the family around them.
Donna is recognised by her peers as being very professional, thorough and hard working in her approach. She has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and is an asset to any team. She always provides invaluable and thoughtful contributions, taking a holistic approach to each child, and has a lovely manner with families and children alike.
